Production Checklist - what you need to make your shoot AWESOME

There are some things you just NEED to bring to a filming shoot. If you forget these things, it will be a very tough day. Here’s a list of essentials that we don’t leave home without.

Before you leave home:

  • Check camera gear out before leaving for shoot. This means testing audio as well. Testing your gear the day before can really save you on the day. Because if something isn’t working you have a day to fix it or hire in other gear. Trying to sort this out on the day is a massive pain in the backside and can really stuff up your shoot.

  • Put batteries for EVERYTHING on charge the night before. Note: when flying with batteries you need to declare them and they need to be put into checked in luggage.

  • Print out all of the documents that you might need for the day. Scripts, call sheets, contacts, release forms etc.

  • Do a recce the day before to workout locations where you will shoot. Doing a recce the day before we save you time on the shoot day and allow you to film more. Running around trying to find the best place to shoot on the day is a pain and you lose time.

  • Create your shooting plan and script before shoot. These two things will be your guide and make your day run smoothly.

The day of the shoot, don’t forget these things:

  • Make sure you bring all equipment and have all batteries charged.

  • Bring hard drives, laptop and laptop charger for wrangling data. Wrangling data onto hard drives at the end of the shoot is best practise as you can check you’ve got all the files and nothing is corrupted or missing. It also enables you to clear your cards and frees you up for more space.

  • Bring all of your paperwork and release forms. Chasing up release forms after a shoot is a major pain in the butt. So make sure you have your release forms with you and signed by all people that you film.

  • Bring your shooting kit. Clothesline will give you the list of our shooting kit. Keep an eye out.
