Top 3 tips for finding the perfect filming location.

A recce before your shoot your video is something we strongly recommend doing.

You might be wondering, what the heck is a recce? A recce is short for reconnaissance. Which, in basic terms, means you scout or do research to find the perfect location to film.

Doing a recce prior to your shoot helps SO much on the day and allows you to have a clear plan and idea of what your videos are going to look and feel like.

When you’re looking for places to film your interview or video, look out for these three things:

1.Noise:

Listen for all of the atmospheric noise in the location you’re thinking about filming at. Listen for traffic noise, beeping sounds, low hums. Anything that might interfere with the audio. If the noise is too loud and interfering or distracting find a different location. Bad audio is hard to fix. Better to have a nice, quiet place to film.

2.Light:

Get someone to sit in the place where you’re thinking of shooting your interview and look through your monitor to see the light that’s being captured. Look for shadows, too much light, reflections, not enough light. Natural and even light is best.

3.Background:

When you’re choosing a place to do your interview look at what’s in the back of shot. Is the background interesting? Is it to distracting? Does it have signs or logos that can’t be used due to copyright? Does the background suit the story that you’re telling?
